Worried in Louisiana

I have two females, one four and the other eight. Recently, they have gotten into what I consider a couple of serious fights. They often tug and hassle each other; but then end up sleeping cuddled together. After the serious fights, they are very wary of each other and I've stopped one or the other from what I think is an overly aggressive move that would likely lead to a another serious fight. I'm fearful of leaving them alone. Will they stop? Should I allow then to fight it out so to speak? Any and all advise you can share on this topic/situation is greatly appreciated.
