Why has my Jack turned on my husband all of a sudden?

by Pamela Millo

We have had our Jack Russell for a little over 2 years now, and he's always been a little mean. He's never really been mean to me, but to others. Lately he has been growling at my husband and other family members, and earlier today, he actually attacked my husband for walking in the bathroom where I was taking a bath. this really isn't like him. What's going on?

Thank you!

Thank you guys so much. I think I may have to take him to a trainer soon because I'm 5 months pregnant, and I really don't want him acting that aggressinve towards our baby. I also allow him and our other Jack Russell, Bella, to sleep on our bed with us. That is going to have to stop too I guess!
Again, thanks so much for the imput!

Yeah, it sounds like you dog is being possessive of you. I think I have a little bit of that problem because my Jack (Penny) will jump at me whenever my husband gives me a hug. She Seems to jealous that she's not the center of attention. She's very happy when we finally pick her up (which is probably not good, because we're just giving into her.)

Does your dog sleep with you on the bed? If she does, you should stop because being allowed to sleep on the bed means that she is at the same level of power as you, or even higher. This is what the people at BarkBusters told us.

Actually, you might want to hire someone at Bark Busters to help you with your issue. The initial fee is a few hundred dollars, but you get lifetime behavioral training for the dog, which is a pretty good deal.

Who is the Boss?

You have a Jack that is the pack leader, when you are supposed to be the pack leader, as is your husband and anyone else living in your house. Don't worry, the dog will stay cuddly and loveable, but it needs a strong leader and that would be you and your family. You don't have to be mean, just assertive. Watch Cesar on TV and you will see what I mean. I've had a Jack for nearly 4 years now and they are much happier if they are given boundaries and limitations, as the Dog Whisperer would say! Also, be sure the dog is neutered.
