Treating Dog Anal Gland Problems

Hi!

My dog Zeus has had 3 poops today in 10 Hrs. It seems that the left side (from the back end ) is a bit swollen and seeping reddish fluid and a pus like substance.

Could the anal gland be plugged and abscessed?

He is an 8 year old male on a liver cleansing dietand take no medications.

Veterinarian Suggestion on Dog Anal Gland Problems

Hello Richard,

It sounds as if your dog may have an infected/abscessed anal gland that has ruptured. Most of these cases require wound therapy, oral antibiotics, and pain relievers to heal appropriately.

Your veterinarian should be able to tell you what is going on and design an effective treatment plan with a physical and digital rectal exam.
