Limping

i have a friend who rescued a jack off of a highway when it was a puppy. It is now 14 plus in years. He all of a sudden started limping and sometimes unable to get his back right leg under him. He is active, is fed and pampered in every way, and i was wondering if this breed has any pre-ordained problems (I don't know how else to put it). Would appreciate any help and information you could provide.
