Is it normal for jack russels to become aggressive?

He was lovely as a pup and still is a lovely, adorable dog that loves fuss! but the problem that me and my family have now is that he seems to snap and growl and chase his tail when you tell him to go to his bed, and he barks and growls when someone leaves the house even family... is this normal? should we try spraying water or something on him when he starts to act in this stupid manner? (He has been castrated)

as i say he's a lovely, caring dog, we are just at wit ends to be honest!!

THIS HAPPENS, BUT YOU MUST RE-,,,
by: ScooterMama

Hello,
First thing I will say to you is that this is a very common problem in both the JRT males and females. Your boy does not want anyone to come and go without him.
So,... you need to start a little retraining. I would get a locked kennel box. I really like the metal kind that they can see out of. When ever someone comes to the house or leaves he must be placed there with it locked. As soon as everthing calms down again he can come out.

After a while he will equate the fact that if he doesn't act in a negative manner he can stay out of the kennel box. The minute that he starts to go back to his old ways, it's back to the locked kennel box. STRAIGHT AWAY!!

He is showing you his dislike, but he needs to recogize that this is the way it is and he's not getting HIS WAY!

The best to you and your poochie!
Shalom and know that this sometimes can take from days to weeks to retrain, but it's totally worth it.

Let me know how this goes and if you need more help, please let me know,
Stef, Belgium, JRT TEXAN LOVER!
