Yes they can! NEW

Pure breed JRT can have blue eyes. They are extremely rare but not breed standard. The blue eyes is a genetic flaw. They sometimes go blind or deaf due to low pigmentation. People need to do their research. I have a short JRT and he is pure bread and he has blue eyes. Not deaf and not blind....although later on he may be.

Prts/Jrts NEW

Jack Russell Terriers and Parson Russell Terriers are not born with blue eyes. Anyone trying to sell a blue eyed Jack or Parson to you is either lying, or just doesn't know their breed well. It is genetically impossible for them to be born with blue eyes, unless they are mixed with another breed that DOES have blue eyes. Which means, the "rare Parson Russell" that you are wanting to buy is just a mix breed. Not rare at all, so don't shell out a ton of money! He may make a good pet, but he is not rare.

Also, anyone who is breeding blue eyes "Jrts" or "Prts" is a BAD breeder.

Rare Parson Russell Terrier NEW
by: Buzzinfly

I am in need of your advice. There is a rare beautiful Parson Russell Terrier I met who is on the list for adoption. He has light brown yellowish eyes and a brown nose. I read on a website that the dog may be of a disqualified identification as a JRT or PRT Is there any affect of this dog for health reasons or other problems etc. ? I am really desperate to know He looks rare. Look forward to your reply Thanks

pure white Jack
by: Anonymous

Hi

our jack has had 4 pups. 3 have the typical white with brown spots coat and one is pure white.

They are now 2 weeks old and have all opened their eyes. 2 have dark brown eyes and one of the typically marked coats plus the pure white coat both have very deep blue - almost black- eyes.

Im worried that the white with blue could be deaf? Also the black pigment on her nose is very slow to fill in compared to the other pups.

This is my first lot of pups so Im unsure what to expect developementally - Can anyone help me?

All White Jack Russell with Blue Eyes
by: Anonymous

Are all Jack Russells that are pure white with blue eyes deaf? We have a friend that just got one on this description and they claim that she is deaf and all Jack Russell's that are pure white with blue eyes are deaf. Tell me what you think. Thank You!

Blue Eyes

Yes they can, but it would tell me that someone didn't check their pedigrees before breeding. This is not acceptable with the registries for Jack Russell's. Only dogs with acceptable conformation should be breed or things like this happen. Very bad eye problems could result. I would take the dog to a canine ophthalmologist and have the eyes checked immediately for some of these problems. I would definitely not breed this dog but have it fixed. Do not keep passing on these genes as they will only get worse.
