Broken coat JRT can't stand the hot weather

I have a 10 months old, broken/rough coat male JRT. Is there anything I can do to make my little Buddy more comfortable in the heat and humidity? My previous JRT was a smooth coat and didn't have any problems. Is it because of the extra hair on the broken coat? We've considered getting him partially shaved to make him more comfortable but don't want to damage his coat.

I have 3 JRT's, one rough-haired who is 6. We nicknamed her scruffy bc of it and we also live in Maryland. I get her shaved in April and around August of every year. Once it's done, she loves it and is so much cooler in the summer. Her coat doesn't "appear" to be that thick but even the groomer was surprised at how much hair came off the first time. Just make sure it's not cut too short to where he/she can get sunburnt. AND she looks even cuter when she's shaved. Another plus, for those six months I don't have dog hair everywhere. Also, I have to adjust her harness and collar afterward.

I have a little fellow with the same coat,I just give him a little trim and it grows back really cute for the winter.
